Vanessa Bruno

Whether it be industrial, fashion, graphic, or interior design, there is a common quality to those who succeed at each. They are all artists first.

Recently I was asked in an interview, did I consider myself an artist or a communicator? My answer was a political answer, but an honest one none-the-less. I replied with a simple "both." I feel it's crucial in our industry to be both a great artist and an equally great communicator. And really, can you be one without the other? I don't believe so.

Vanessa Bruno is one of my favorite fashion designers for so many reasons; the first being that she is such an obvious artist. Yes, her garments are breathtakingly beautiful and every season she introduces us to a new "Bruno woman" who we can't help but fall captive to, but it's in her creative presentation of each new collection that I simply gush over.

In collaboration with director Stephanie Di Giusto, Vanessa has created a series of creative short films featuring her latest collection. Her most recent, Moonlight,  features actress Kate Bosworth as a woman who continually gets lost in her own dreams, clinging to them in fact, challenging her reality and life as she knows it. We can all relate to the dreamer that lives inside. For me, she is very real and I couldn't be more thrilled to view the new short film for Moonlight.

Below are some of my favorite short films she's created as well as a few photos from her Spring Summer 2009 campaign, featuring Lou Doillon. Enjoy!
